poem: our lives together in challenging times

poem: our lives together in challenging times

separated from one another
and under assault from the external din
as never before in our lifetime

a ‘new normal’ will never evolve
by commenting on the scenery or
changing external circumstances

needing intensive Self care,
and a cleansing from the rhetoric, lies,
propaganda, hubris, nostalgia, and platitudes

letting go of all we think we know
and that which the dominant authorities
want us to believe although unexamined

here and now quieting and stilling
we are as beginners each new day to the
examined, intentional, purposeful life

transcending the absorbed self
let us turn and open within
to wisdom of the ages and Self truth here and now

being as seekers
of the new day, the new time,
and the new way transformed

recalling Truth and Love
are the treasures sitting upon
the Lotus throne of our hearts

now with intensive Self care and loving mutuality
together we shall meet the difficult challenges
confronting us

dear friends pray for me in my tiredness
as I pray for you in yours, as we take time now,
to be restored together in Truth, Beauty, and Goodness

A FEW THOUGHTS ABOUT LIBERTY AND FREEDOM ON THE FOURTH JULY
2021

Note: I have been posting this reminder on the fourth of July for several years now. This year I have tweaked it a bit, however, it remains relatively unchanged as have the threats to our liberty and freedom. This is no time to let our guard down against tyranny or to take our eye off the Beloved Authentic Community of All for the Greater Good! There is much work to still be done!

1) None of us are free until all are free. Don’t mistake your personal privilege for the freedom of all.

2) Freedom is not tolerance for one group to be prejudiced towards and discriminate against another group. That is oppression. Silence in the face of oppression is a victory for the oppressor. Speak truth to power.

3) We continue to live in very volatile times and are in grave danger of losing our democratic republic to a plutocracy of oligarchs and to those with fascist leanings. Do not be silent. Do not be complacent. Do not be complicit. They will eventually come for you too. Resist as if your life and those of your loved ones depends on it! Because it does!!

4) Do the hard work of personal and collective transformation which the world as it is so needs. Be willing to prepare, practice , and participate in being the change we need. Put in some sweat equity and some skin in the game. In relation to the dominant systems of power, control, and violence, one must be transformed, resist, and be an activist for authentic and true change. Only those with eyes to see and ears to hear this call will assure its achievement for the common good of all.

Have a safe, authentic, and happy Fourth of July 💓🙏✊

quote: the epigram from my new book of poetry, The Poetry of Resistance and Transformative Healing

Reflection: The inside out and upside down ministry of Jesus, the Universal Cosmic Christ (by whatever name) and my prayer to be with those on the margins as God calls me

Reflection: The inside out and upside down ministry of Jesus, the Universal Cosmic Christ (by whatever name) and my prayer to be with those on the margins as God calls me

( I originally wrote the reflection below several years ago as I underwent a particularly challenging realization with the institutional church of which I was a congregant eventually resulting in my departing the church for what for me is a much more meaningful spiritual life centered in celebrating the gifts of all spiritual traditions and being grounded in the evolution of True Self (discipleship) and belonging together in authentic communities (the kingdom or kin-dom). My relationship with the Divine Cosmic Will (God by whatever name) has never been stronger.)

My increasing awareness, especially now in my life, is that Jesus is always with the outsider and outcast who suffers and hurts for the world and shares the pain of others.

Jesus leaves the institutional worship place, sometimes in anger, as we see in the Temple story of the ‘den of robbers,’ to be with those who are on the outside and who just can’t cut it in those places anymore. I think of this as the spirituality of imperfection. Certainly we all are united in our imperfections.

In Jesus going out to these outsiders, he, of course, takes leave of those who are arrogant and prideful and all knowing and thusly, the insiders of the worship place’s, with their dominant cultural traditions and hierarchical hegemony. These insiders are, of course, generally those leaders in power and control, officially or otherwise.

Other good and innocent souls linger there as well perhaps holding onto the law and its rules of right and wrong not having yet experienced the truth, beauty, and goodness of our shared suffering and wounds and imperfections.

God send me into the messiness of this world with the imperfect souls such as myself so that we might commune together in the dark shadows and light spirits as your Beloved children through grace, love, mercy, justice, peace, and hope!

Amen and Amen

poem: limping to the narrow gate of Eternal Life

poem: limping to the narrow gate
of Eternal Life

this morning, awakening
under a blanket of ice,
more sub-freezing and ice
coming, and then the big snow

covid continues nipping our heels
in a world of political turmoil
and nations divided with
endemic injustice holding steady

in this deep freeze season,
society fragile under cultural dominance
in an era far from the divine consciousness
besieged from all sides

limping into forty days of Lent,
smack in the face of our hubris, conceit,
and sentimentality, reflecting and praying
the plank be removed from our eyes
