poem: healing heaven and earth

poem: healing heaven and earth

living our lives
waiting for a magic pass
to a magic kingdom
is wasting our breath

there is no magic pass
to the self truth
of True Self
and it’s Healing

there is no magic pass
to the relational mutuality
of Authentic Community
and Coming Home

there is no magic pass
to the Higher Consciousness
of Universal Truth
and it’s Cosmic Being

there is no magic pass
to the Radical Grace and Love
of the New Way
and New Life

only through grace, contemplation,
awareness, intent, will, and action
are we personally transformed
and collectively actualized

only rigorous preparation
and tenacious practice
will render us ready to participate
in Heaven and Earth Here and Now

when all things are considered
with Radical Grace and Love
Heaven and Earth
are one

Author’s note: The last stanza is
a paraphrase of Hui Shih who
wrote: “When all things be
considered with love, heaven
and earth are one body for me.”

poem: seasons of nature and life

poem: seasons of nature and life

and now Autumn comes in abundance
light, leaves, wildflowers, crops
a feast for our earthly senses

slowing, days shorten
falling, leaves covering the ground
baring, meadows and fields stripped

with it’s fierce appetite
we find ourselves at last
with only what we have stored up

soon enough stoking the fire
huddling in it’s warmth and light
season changing; stillness, silence, solitude come

these seasons of nature and life
a time to sow and a time to reap
a time to be born and a time to die

now in the winter of life
observing nature’s autumn glories
memories of past springs and summers

then, at last, ashes to ashes
and dust to dust, that the Spirit
may quicken and unify all in All

Author’s note: Stanza five references
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 and the last stanza is based
upon the liturgy ‘The Order for the Burial of
the Dead’ from the ‘Book of Common Prayer.’
Christianity aside, many spiritual traditions and
religions have this concept of a spiritual
consciousness which extends beyond nature’s
bodily death.

poem: Autumn’s passion lights our souls on fire

poem: Autumn’s passion
lights our souls on fire

bees, butterflies, grasshoppers,
insects of every stripe
abuzz, Autumn’s wild flowers

thistle down fluff
drifting on the breeze
aglow, Autumn’s warm light

surrounded by meadows
bathed in waning light
ablaze, Autumn’s fire in our souls

Autumn’s meadows’

poem: our lives together in challenging times

poem: our lives together in challenging times

separated from one another
and under assault from the external din
as never before in our lifetime

a ‘new normal’ will never evolve
by commenting on the scenery or
changing external circumstances

needing intensive Self care,
and a cleansing from the rhetoric, lies,
propaganda, hubris, nostalgia, and platitudes

letting go of all we think we know
and that which the dominant authorities
want us to believe although unexamined

here and now quieting and stilling
we are as beginners each new day to the
examined, intentional, purposeful life

transcending the absorbed self
let us turn and open within
to wisdom of the ages and Self truth here and now

being as seekers
of the new day, the new time,
and the new way transformed

recalling Truth and Love
are the treasures sitting upon
the Lotus throne of our hearts

now with intensive Self care and loving mutuality
together we shall meet the difficult challenges
confronting us

dear friends pray for me in my tiredness
as I pray for you in yours, as we take time now,
to be restored together in Truth, Beauty, and Goodness

poem: craving connection, a creature in the house of the living God

poem: craving connection, a creature
in the house of the living God

cooped up so long
due to inhospitable climes,
poor health, contagion

now stepping out into a Fallish nip,
on the breeze, more agreeable climes,
a brilliant walk at long last

my beloved and I seeking benefits
of a good trek on a good day,
lifting lagging spirits

the beauty of the season’s change
and its’ bounty greet us along the trail,
bearing witness thus sustaining

hedge apples, blue cardinal flower,
wingstem, bulrush, honeysuckle
berries, milkweed seed pods abounding

industrious insects scattered
gathering pollen as diapause approaches,
riotous activity aplenty

reflecting in the seasons
life’s paradoxical cycles,
all things interconnecting, working together

nature’s holistic rhyme, rhythm, and flow
fully on display this day,
entering, soothing our very souls

oh thy saving grace may we accept
being instruments of your peaceableness,
Earth beings in the great Cosmos belonging

a creature in the house of the living God

poem: memories of youthful luminescence

poem: memories of youthful luminescence

once, long ago, remembering
a night on the beach at Viareggio

the moon a yellow pizza pie
glowing in the great cosmo sky

cheese stretching from above
to our hungry mouths below

stinging jelly fish luminescing
in the dark Mediterranean sea

endless stars lighting the dark void
of the night canopy overhead

our heart’s souls connecting to all
in golden threads

we skip the light fandango
the great cosmos spins
