Author’s note: I have been
working on this haiku all
week while being housebound
by heavy snows in the Central
Basin of the Highlands of
Middle Tennessee. I wrote the
haiku before witnessing the
actual event of a cardinal
appearing in the underbrush
on a freezing sunny snowy winter
day when I took this photo.
Matching my poetry with art
and photos is a major part of my
creative process.
