skies pink and purple
frozen winter wonderland
silence’s softening

Author’s note: Upon awakening
this morning early, after 6 inches
of snow yesterday, my front door
was frozen shut, and as the dawn
arrived the sky offered a dazzling
display of soft colors in the frozen
white silence surrounding me.
