poem: john’s heavenly jukebox

John Prine, songwriter and entertainer extraordinaire, has died in Nashville from COVID-19

I wrote this little poem for him on his passing on yesterday:

poem: john’s heavenly jukebox*

john prine, john prine
goodbye, we’ll miss you,
your heart and good times
always lifting us

you woke us up,
made us laugh and cry
and just feel plain human,
imperfectly perfect

when you get to heaven,
tell the old folk hello in there
and the angel from montgomery
spreading her wings

sam stone too (forgive us)
